Handover
A couple of months ago, I had the opportunity of stepping into a new role at work temporarily. Within days of when I got this information, the incumbent on the role started to handover to me with a well detailed document of all I needed to know on the job. In the last days of handover, we worked together. Any time we got a request, I simply asked her and she would respond. Everyone in the organisation still referred to her despite the communication that I will be taking over. However, on the first day that I resumed officially into this new role, I began to receive trails of emails. My phone buzzed unusually. My teams calendar soon started getting full with various meetings, majority of which I did not have a clue what the agenda is. The more I referred to the handover notes, the more pressured I felt. It was now clear to me that a few pages of handover cannot replace many years of experience on a job.
By week one, I was already exhausted and stressed. I soon started to receive queries I couldn’t really answer. Obviously, I did not have the background information on some issues. I got a few backlash for outcomes of decisions I took while I referred to the handover notes.
I realised at this point that I was simply on my own. I needed to decide either to SWIM or SINK?
I caught a glance recently of the word “handover” or similar word to it in the scripture, and it got me really thinking…
Psalm 31:8- You have not “handed me over” to my enemies but have set me in a safe place.
Romans 1:24 — This is why God lifted off his restraining hand and let them have full expression of their sinful and shameful desires. They were given over ( handed over) to moral depravity, dishonouring their bodies by sexual perversion among themselves
With these two scriptures, I realised that;
- When an handover is done, the new recipient is now fully responsible for whatever content the handover brings. Positive or Negative.
- From the first scripture, it is obvious that, the enemy constantly makes a request over our lives. However he does not have any control except God hands us over to him.
- The reason some people get away with continuous sin and careless way of living is because God has not yet handed them over.
- It is clear however from the second scripture that God can indeed hand over an individual to the enemy. And like an actual handover, the recipient bears all the brunt of the outcomes of their decisions.
Deep thinking required:
When someone is no longer in God’s hand, where would they be ? What would be their fate?
Prayer
Dear Lord, no matter what I do. Please do not hand me over. Help me out somehow.. Hold me tight!
