Looking to God First
The key to a peaceful life
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, Which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2 ,KJV)
I wonder what the Psalmist had in mind when he wrote the first verse of Psalm 121.
Was he looking up to the hills as a natural edifice that reminded him of the supernatural? Was his trust diverted first on something rather than God? Or was he referring to the hill as his life difficulties?
In times of trouble, it is natural to seek solutions. We could scurry around, seeking opinions and advice from people or systems that could help us. But sometimes, not until we have exhausted all our options, do we remember that we have overlooked the reliable source of help: God.
The Psalmist acknowledges that our minds can wander far, sometimes on a needless chase when seeking help. But we need to quickly remind ourselves that our only source of help will always be from our heavenly father who knows and can solve all things.
Even when we think we have all the answers, we are encouraged to seek God first, who is omnipotent, and understands the perfect solutions to all situations.
Today, we are invited to a place of serenity, where God is the beginning and end of all our pursuits.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalms 46:1, NIV)
