The Loudest No
God’s voice is not always still and small.
The bible on many occasion gives account of how God speaks to his people. Some of the interesting ones were: The still small voice to prophet Elijah (1st King 19:12). The burning Bush with Moses (Exodus 3:1–4). God spoke to Gideon using a fleece (Judg. 6:37–40). He spoke to Saul on his way to Damascus through a bright light (Acts 9:1–5). He even spoke through a donkey to Balaam (Num. 22:1–35).
I recall a time when I was trying to matchmake two of my friends as both of them were of marriageable age. I had studied both personalities and concluded in my mind that they might fit as husband and wife. I was about to make a call to kick off this conversation when I had a nudging to ask the Holy spirit. I did, and I heard what sounded like an audible NO in my chest. I was absolutely stunned as I had never encountered an inner response in this manner. I was very convinced there was no way forward.
God speaks in diverse ways. Sometimes we are not so sure, so we validate through other means (i.e seek counsel or search his word etc). However I know now that God can also speak so clearly in a manner, that it is difficult to miss.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27–28
