When I read about the many battles that were fought in the Bible, I feel distressed that there were too many killings.

I was also surprised to see that God himself gave victories to some of these battles.

But why would God support killings?

My understanding is that in ancient days, victory was achieved by defeating physical enemies in battles.

Victory today, however, is achieved by fighting spiritual enemies and strongholds that cause the afflictions we see physically.

Then and now, there were enemies that needed to be defeated.

We thank God for today’s victories, because they are won through the blood of Jesus Christ our Saviour.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephesians 3:12, KJV)
